Installing Windows on an ASUS laptop with a bare drive

Note: This was done using an AUS ROG Zephyrus M16 (2022). Your experience may vary on other ASUS laptops. Finding the shared links was harder than it should be, so I thought I'd share.

Installing Windows

I recently upgraded the SSD in my Asus laptop. The new SSD was blank. When I went to install Windows, I got an error.

No drives found. After more searching than I expected, I found [Notebook/AIO] Troubleshooting - How to fix the problem that cannot find drives when installing Windows 11/10.

Armoury Crate

ASUS laptops come with Armoury Crate. Some laptop features are less easy to use without it. Not everyone likes Armoury Crate.

If you'd like it, the version in the Windows Store is abandoned. The "Armoury Crate Full Installation Package" does not support laptops (as of 2022-10). This is noted in a part of the description hidden by "show more description".

To get a working version, go to the Armoury Crate support page, select your OS, and download "Armoury Crate & Aura Creator Installer". This installer should download the appropriate files for your particular laptop.
